Writing Prompt Wednesday: Wax On! Wax Off!

th (2)For any child of the 80’s, The Karate Kid stands as a favorite coming-of-age, good vs. evil movie; in our house we’ve recently shown it to our youngest daughter who is a karate student…and she’s rooting for Daniel just like the rest of us always have. But was Daniel the hero or the villain? There’s a recent video floating around that suggests that instead of Daniel, Johnny – member of the Cobra Kai dojo, and Daniel’s nemesis – is actually the hero of the story. The video does make a good argument, but I’ll probably still root for Daniel. The lesson here – sometimes when you’re stuck on your work-in-progress, it’s helpful to take a step back and re-imagine our heroes and villains. It might help you discover a motive that you hadn’t realized before, and flesh out our characters so they’re multi-dimensional.
